Phoebe Collings-James’ prints reference a netting mask worn in her recent 16mm video work ‘Mother Tongue, Mother Master’ (2018). In the video it served to bind the artist’s voice, constraining the body and its histories, whilst alternative sounds propose the possibility of a subjecthood, of agency and resistance. In the print the netting retains an echo of the figure.
